AS & A Level Subjects Selection

If you are reading this article, there are chances that you are a student who has passed his/her IGCSE/O Level; and indeed it’s a biggest milestone achieved in someone’s life. So, most of you have started your A level or would start soon after the exam session.

The most critical and important decision is to make after graduating from O Level/IGCSE and entering into A level is the “Subject Selection”. Choosing the right subjects for your A level is very essential and important because this will decide which career you are going to opt for after graduating from A Level.

Majority of the students what they do is, after graduating from IGCSE/O Level by get straight A*/A they tend to think much broader and they choose extra subjects in A levels. This is the biggest mistake made by students, A-Level is very difficult and challenging compare to IGCSE/O Level. As said, this is a part of your life which would decide your future. So try to opt for your majors or core courses rather than going for extra subjects where universities would not consider and might discourage it so its disadvantageous. Choosing the right subjects will create a base for your career when you will enter in universities.

Sometimes it can get tricky to choose which A-Level subject would fit best for your career. There are three principles of choosing the right A-Level subject.

• Choose the subject you will enjoy
• Choose the subject which would add value to your career plans
• Take out time to find all necessary suggestions, syllabuses, past papers and skills required.

Following are the subjects selection required for different courses (minimum 3 courses as required by universities)

Medical

• Biology
• Chemistry
• Physics/Mathematics

In some cases, mathematics can be taken as a substitute for physics.

Business Management (BBA/BSc)

• Accounting
• Business
• Economics

If you want to prolong your career in business management such as Marketing, HR, Supply Chain and entrepreneurship, then take these subjects as these would not only help you in your universities but also it will develop your base and skills when you apply for jobs in future.

• Business/Mathematics/Law

As we all know that accounting is a very vast field, it totally depends on your interest. We recommend our members to go for Bs Accounting and Finance degree rather than opting for ACCA, the reason behind that is ACCA is a certification where as BS A&F is a degree. Moreover, after having the degree you can get straight 9 exemptions from ACCA. We would recommend to opt for ACCA only if you are interested in Auditing and Taxation. And if you are really interested in going for “Finance” stock market, derivatives, brokerage, investment banking and so on, then we recommend you to opt for BBA and then MBA along with CFA.
